Blast From The Past

Whilst flicking through the Sky TV of the house that I am house-sitting I was lucky enough to stumble across The Crystal Maze.

Whilst watching this cult classic I had fantastic flashbacks to watching it as a child. And I am glad to say that nothing has changed...

...I still jump up and down and scream at the TV and the "stupid poxy people" ;)

And folks I am glad to add that it was named Greatest UK Game Show of All Time in a 2006 poll by the UKGameshows website.

I think they should re-do another series - with Richard O'brien of course - so that we can go on it and show the previous contestants how it's done :)

Forwards...

Forwards are great, forwards are funny, forwards are a good way to show someone that you're still thinking of them even if you have nothing to say.

But chain mail forwards are STUPID, can I repeat that, stupid. I do not like opening up my Inbox and then every month finding 56 copies of the same sodding e-mail. Every month without fail the same people will send me the exact same e-mail as they sent the previous month.

Grrrrrrrrrrr!!

This would not be so bad if it were not for that fact that it is blatantly a fake.
For example, in just one day I received 12 copies of this drivel ( I have left the bad formatting in on purpose - my apologies)...

">hey it is Andy and john the directors of MSN, sorry for the

>Anyway, once you've sent this message to at least 18 contacts, your msn
>dude will become blue. Please copy and paste. Don't forward because people
>won't take notice of it. Everything always works out in the end "

OK, the first bloody thing you should have notcied is that the e-mail does not start with a capital letter, it does not even have a capital letter on the name John. Note also the lack of the MSN logo, note also the way in which it tells you to 'not send this message on' in the first paragraph and yet in the second tell s you to "send this message to everyone on your contact list".

Hmmm perhaps slightly contradictory...

Don't you think?

Let me see, what else is wrong - hmm where shall I start. Ah how about a mention of MSN and their magic servers. The servers will be "shut down" - so exactly how do they justify to "cost" us (great grammar there by the way) 10.00 in unmentioned currency (come on people, wake up) for a service that has been switched off. Yes shutting down means switching off something several computer users should actually do occasionally - computers need a break too. So does this mean that MSN are going to con us from our (in some cases at least) hard earned cash, that presents a fantastic company image doesn't it.

Now everyone, remember not to "replay" to this message...

I am sure that the guys at MSN have heard of a little application called spell check as well, don't know for definite, but just a hunch.

Look I could go on and on for even longer than I already have about this e-mail, there is so much wrong with it. So guys and girls, stop sending me crap! If I have to start naming and shaming people then I will. Most importantly it asks you to send it once...ONCE!!! This does not mean send it to everyone everytime you receive it!

Oh in case you're wondering, the link does take you to a webpage!! Unfourtunately it is dated 2001 at the very top tho...

*sighs*

Image...

In a school, ICT support are the unseen force. We drift in and out of classrooms unnoticed, neither students nor staff paying heed. This leads for very interesting days, we learn all manner of things - some we really didn't want to hear - but occassionally I will hear something that makes me very sad.

A year eight or nine boy for example asking his friend why he bothered buying his mother a present for her birthday. His reasoning behind not doing it was that women are not important. That all they do is "screw you over" and "run off with all your stuff and money". He said that in his household they never bought their mother anything as she wasn't important enough.

The conversation proceeds as such (perhaps cleaned up);
b: How do you know they do it?
a: Because they do. I've known for years. I've never seen one not be like it.
b: Thats not right, my mum is different
a: They are all the same. Even films show that!
*b looks thoughtful*
b: I still think you're wrong
a: Then you're stupid.

No more words were exchanged all the time that I was in the room.

It might have been media effect, but then it would've affected the other boy too. Or the childs parent's may have divorced but I didn't get that impression.
I am aware that there are cultures around for whom women are little but second class citizens and possessions, and I can only presume that his family was a part of that culture. It is a way of 'life' but it saddened me all the same.
